A Night to Remember: This Was My Life Red Carpet Premiere in Los Angeles
On April 10, 2025, Los Angeles lit up with love, laughter, and legacy as the red carpet rolled out at the Laemmle Royal Theater for the sold-out premiere of This Was My Life: Nick Menza’s Metal Memories With Megadeth and Beyond.
The evening was everything we could have hoped for—and more. Friends, family, fans, fellow musicians, and cast members came together for a powerful and emotional tribute to the legendary drummer Nick Menza.
From the vibrant red carpet photo session to the heartfelt Q&A following the screening, it was a night of celebration, connection, and remembrance.
“Wow. What can I say that will accurately express last night’s red carpet premiere of our documentary film? We sold out our theater at the Laemmle Royal in Los Angeles! SO many people were there—musicians, people who were in the film, fans, family, and friends… There was laughter, tears, and a whole lot of love expressed in that room,” shared director Holly Grayson in a Facebook post.
The Q&A session was an especially moving part of the evening, featuring:
Director Holly Grayson
Producer and former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson
Nick’s sister Donia Menza-Ontiveros
Nick’s son Nicholas Menza
Composer Jane Saunders, who scored the film
Each offered emotional insights into Nick’s life, legacy, and the deeply personal journey behind the making of the film.
“Last night in Los Angeles was a deeply emotional SOLD OUT celebration of life as we gathered for the premiere and red carpet event… I feel truly honored to be able to present this tribute to Nick’s parents, Don and Rose Menza, his sister Donia, and his sons, Dante and Nicholas,” David Ellefson wrote. “Rest easy, my friend. You are missed and remembered always.”
“It was an incredibly emotional, sold-out celebration of life for our beloved brother Nick at the red carpet premiere of his long-awaited documentary film… The Menza family is forever grateful for your continued support in keeping his memory and legacy alive,” posted by the Menza Family on Nick’s Facebook page.
After the screening, the celebration continued with an intimate gathering at the Menza family home—where director Holly Grayson and her husband Rick had the honor of traveling alongside the Menza family by party bus to and from the event.
“I cannot express how much I appreciate the pure amazing that is the Menza family. They opened their home to us and made us feel like a part of the family,” said Holly. “During the film, I looked around at all of the people just enjoying the film and the outpouring of love and emotion and thought to myself: ‘THIS is why I made this film.’”
