Byzantine "harbinger" video released by Metal blade records
Charleston’s own metal visionaries, BYZANTINE, have unveiled a stunning claymation music video for “Harbinger,” a track from their latest album Harbingers (released June 2025 via Metal Blade Records)
So the Raven is officially out of the bag!
Over the past several months, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Chris Ojeda and Byzantine on a truly unique project—the official music video for “Harbinger” from their latest album, Harbingers.
This was an exciting creative challenge that brought together incredible talent. Adrian Venti, a gifted claymation artist from Mexico, painstakingly hand-sculpted each character and set, capturing every frame with remarkable patience and artistry. His dedication to detail is nothing short of inspiring.
From there, I had the pleasure of bringing the visuals to life through editing—crafting a sequence that matched the rhythm and intensity of the song. I also created the animated introduction, transforming birds into letters, which turned out to be a surprisingly fun challenge!
Working on this project reminded me why I love storytelling in all its forms—especially when it intersects music, film, and art in unexpected ways.
As Chris Ojeda shares about the process:
“This video has taken months to curate. We wanted to continue our path of handmade original artwork for this new album. My daughter Mallory and I wrote the script for the story, hired a young Claymation artist from Mexico named Adrian Venti to hand build every scene out of clay and brought Holly Grayson with Screaming Butterfly Entertainment (Justinian Code, The Cicada Tree, The Agonies) to edit all the footage to make this beautiful music video about a boy who, after losing his father, searches for his importance in life, only to be lured in by a voracious Wolf who steers the boy down a path of greed and selfishness. The boy is eventually saved by one random act of kindness towards a lone Raven. Ravens never forget.”
This collaboration was an honor to be part of, and we are thrilled to finally share it with the world.
